As the curtain draws on the World Cup 2023, India’s roaring blitzkrieg journey to the final ended in a whimper and caved in tamely to the Kangaroos. The pathetic performance by the Indian team and a smiling Prime Minister Modi who was also the witness to the debacle has angered cricket fans who have started a #Panauti trend on Twitter.

#Panauti Trending on Twitter, Netizens Call PM Narendra Modi Bad Luck

Fans have gone to the extent of calling Mr. Narendra Modi a penalty or bad luck since India has never won a World Cup. The hashtag panauti has taken over Twitter and angry fans are venting their anger. What has irked them, in particular, was the video of Narendra Modi smiling and waving as Indian bowlers sunk deeper into the morass. However all credit to the Australians who both bowled and batted well to clinch the World Cup for the sixth time.

Ind vs Aus, ICC Cricket World Cup 2023: A day every Indian fan would want to forget

Only Rohit Sharma, KL Rahul, and Virat Kohli gave a semblance of a fightback while all the big names crumbled like a house of cards. Australia from the beginning looked a stronger side with impeccable bowling followed by aggressive batting. Travis was the sheet anchor with his knock of 137 Off 121 along with Marnus Labuschagne’s slower 58* off 110. The Australian team managed to achieve the target of 240 runs in the 43rd over with 6 wickets in hand.

Mitchell Starc’s impressive 3/55, complemented by two wickets each from Pat Cummins and Josh Hazlewood completely decimated the Indian batting.

Twitter is burning with caustic comments by cricket fans. Many believe that just naming the stadium as Narendra Modi stadium brought bad luck to the Indian Team. The fans also reposted an old picture of Rahul Gandhi witnessing the 2011 final which India won after a gap of 28 years.

Post match a smiling Narendra Modi handing the trophy to Australian captain Pat Cummins further inflamed the cricket fans. With over 172K posts under the trending #Panauti so far,” fans are venting their anger and joining the dots which hints that under Prime Minister Modi’s tenure India has always lost the World Cup finals.

Fans say Modi is Panauti and the World Cup drought for India continues. The journey of Indian team to the finals was smooth and without hiccups and fans were lulled into a false sense of security and were convinced that India will lift the World Cup. However, fate ordained otherwise.
