Para-powerlifters Ashok and Paramjeet Kumar qualify for 2024 Paris Paralympics
Indian para-powerlifters, Ashok Kumar and Paramjeet Kumar, have secured their spots in the 2024 Paralympics in Paris after winning silver medals at the Para Powerlifting World Cup in Egypt. Ashok Kumar lifted 192kg and 196kg, while Paramjeet Kumar lifted 160kg and 166kg, showcasing their strength and determination.
Despite a setback during his second attempt, Ashok Kumar’s impressive performance has solidified his qualification pathway for the Paris Paralympics 2024. Ranked World No. 6, he displayed remarkable strength throughout the competition, demonstrating his readiness for the upcoming games.
Paramjeet Kumar, competing in the 49kg weight category, narrowly missed out on the gold but secured a silver medal with lifts of 160kg and 166kg. Currently ranked 6th in the world, his outstanding display of strength has earned him a well-deserved spot in the Paralympics.
Jordan’s Omar S.H Qarada claimed the gold in the event with lifts of 170kg, 172kg, and 176kg, while bronze went to Muslim Al Sudani of Iraq with a lift of 165kg. Additionally, in the 41kg body weight category, Manpreet Kaur clinched a bronze medal by lifting 86kg, showcasing a remarkable performance.
The Para Powerlifting World Cup proved to be a thrilling competition for Indian para-powerlifters, with Ashok Kumar and Paramjeet Kumar’s outstanding performances securing their places in the upcoming Paralympics. The athletes’ determination and strength have not only earned them silver medals but also highlighted their potential for success on the global stage in 2024.
