Pegula Claims Victory Over Anisimova in Charleston; Collins Emerges Victorious as Well

In Charleston, the top seed and world No.5 Jessica Pegula survived a three-set thriller against Amanda Anisimova, winning 3-6, 6-4, 7-6(7-3) in a match that lasted two hours and 26 minutes. Pegula overcame a denied match point and eventually triumphed in the breaker.

Pegula, a semifinalist last year, faced a tough second-round clash, converting only four of 15 break point opportunities. She will now face Magda Linette after Linette rallied from a first-set bagel to beat Dayana Yastremska in three sets.

However, fellow American Madison Keys fell to Romania’s Jaqueline Cristian in three sets, marking an upset. Meanwhile, Miami Open champion Danielle Collins defeated Paula Badosa and is set to play No.2 seed Ons Jabeur in the next round.

Badosa, who has struggled with injuries in the past, faced another setback in Charleston. She missed the last six months of 2023 due to a spinal stress fracture and has dealt with calf and adductor injuries. This defeat adds to her recent challenges on the court.
