Pernod Ricard India Signs MOU with Maharashtra Government to Set Up Malt Spirit Distillery in Nagpur

Pernod Ricard India, a key player in the wine and spirits industry, has signed a MoU with the government of Maharashtra to establish a malt spirits distillery in Nagpur’s Butibori industrial suburb. The proposed distillery, with an investment of up to 200 million euros in this decade, aims to become one of India’s largest, producing 60,000 litres of fresh malt spirit daily.

The signing of the MoU, which aligns with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s ‘Make in India’ vision, took place in the presence of Maharashtra’s Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, Industries Minister Uday Samant, Excise Minister Shambhuraj Desai, and other officials. Representing Pernod Ricard India were CEO Jean Touboul, national corporate affairs head Prasanna Mohile, and senior vice-president Gagandeep Sethi.

By committing to employ a workforce of 700-800 post-commissioning, Pernod Ricard India emphasizes its dedication to the economic and skill development of the region and the country. The distillery’s foundation is anticipated to generate employment opportunities, support ancillary industries, and enhance agricultural diversity and stability by procuring barley annually from farmers nationwide.

CEO Jean Touboul expressed confidence in elevating India’s status as a key player in high-quality malt production. The establishment of the distillery is expected to bring growth to allied sectors in Nagpur and Maharashtra, providing new avenues for local entrepreneurs and the farming community. Sustainable practices and technologies will be integrated into processes from the plant’s inception.
