PGA TOUR: Yu’s birdie finish keeps him in contention for the title at the Cognizant Classic
Chinese Taipei’s Kevin Yu remains in title contention at the Cognizant Classic in The Palm Beaches after shooting a 1-under 70 for tied fourth place. Yu birdied the final hole in his third round, leaving him three back of co-leaders Shane Lowry, David Skinns, and Austin Eckroat, as he aims for his first PGA TOUR victory.
Yu, who hit 15 greens in regulation, knows his putter needs to get hot on Sunday to challenge the leaders. Despite missing several opportunities, he remains optimistic about his chances. “It was a solid day today. Obviously, I didn’t make a lot of putts. Just hitting the ball pretty nicely. I just missed a lot of putts,” he said.
The 25-year-old is driven by the prospect of securing a spot at the Arnold Palmer Invitational presented by Mastercard after qualifying for the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am and Genesis Invitational. He aims for a good result in the final round to carry momentum into the next tournament, as per PGA TOUR reports.
In other results, Korea’s Tom Kim sits at T26, while Byeong Hun An and S.H. Kim dropped to T48 and T63, respectively. Lowry, with two top-5 finishes in the event, is looking for his third PGA TOUR victory. “I feel like I just know how to play the golf course. I feel like I’ve figured it out,” he mentioned.
As the tournament progresses, the competition heats up, with players like Yu and Lowry battling it out for the top spot. Stay tuned for the final round action and see who emerges victorious in The Palm Beaches.
