PM describes Pokhran as a symbol of India’s self-reliance, confidence, and glory at ‘Bharat Shakti’ exercise

Prime Minister Narendra Modi witnessed a tri-services live fire and manoeuvre exercise showcasing indigenous defence capabilities at Pokhran, Rajasthan. The demonstration highlighted India’s self-reliance initiative and prowess in weaponry. The Prime Minister emphasized the importance of aatmanirbharta (self-reliance) in defense sector, especially after the successful test firing of Agni-5 missile equipped with advanced MIRV technology.

The Prime Minister reiterated the significance of reducing dependence on other countries for defense equipment and technology. He commended the efforts towards self-reliance in defense, mentioning the increase in defense production and procurement from Indian companies. The event showcased India’s strength in tanks, cannons, fighter jets, helicopters, and missile systems, all reflecting the spirit of ‘Bharat Shakti’.

Emphasizing the need for policy reforms, private sector participation, and support to MSME startups in defense manufacturing, the Prime Minister highlighted the steps taken to boost indigenous production. He praised the chiefs of all three forces for their efforts in promoting Made in India products and supporting Indian manufacturing ecosystems. The event underscored the importance of aatmanirbharta in ensuring self-confidence in the armed forces.

The event was attended by Rajasthan Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, Chief of Defence Staff Gen Anil Chauhan, Army Chief Gen Manoj Pande, Air Force Chief Air Chief Marshal Vivek Ram Chaudhari, and Navy Chief Admiral R. Hari Kumar among others. The demonstration at Pokhran showcased India’s progress towards self-reliance in defense, marking a significant step in the country’s defense capabilities and manufacturing.
