PM Modi calls Vladimir Putin to congratulate him on election win

New Delhi, March 20 (IANS) Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulated Russian President Vladimir Putin on his recent victory in the presidential elections. The leaders discussed the strengthening of ties between the two countries, focusing on trade, investment, energy, and transport. They also discussed key international issues, including the situation around Ukraine.

During a telephone conversation, both leaders expressed their commitment to furthering the mutually beneficial relationship between India and Russia. The Kremlin readout highlighted the positive developments in the strategic partnership between the two countries.

The leaders also discussed their cooperation in multilateral forums such as the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation and BRICS. Prime Minister Modi is scheduled to attend the BRICS Summit in Kazan from October 22 to 24, where further discussions are expected to take place.

Russia assumed the BRICS Chairmanship for 2024 with a focus on ‘Strengthening Multilateralism for Equitable Global Development and Security’. The upcoming summit will provide an opportunity for India and Russia to strengthen their collaboration and address global challenges together.
