PM Modi inaugurates construction of two new Delhi Metro corridors

Prime Minister Narendra Modi laid the foundation stone for two additional corridors of Delhi Metro’s Phase 4, connecting Inderlok to Indraprastha and Lajpat Nagar to Saket G-Block, in a bid to enhance connectivity and reduce traffic congestion. During the event at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, PM Modi also engaged with recipients of the PM SVANidhi scheme, expressing gratitude to street vendors for their significant contribution.

Union Urban Development Minister Hardeep Singh Puri highlighted that the new corridors, costing Rs 8,400 crore, will benefit around 2.5 lakh people daily, contributing to PM Modi’s vision of ‘Viksit Bharat’. The Inderlok-Indraprastha corridor will extend the Green Line and provide interchange with several other lines, while the Lajpat Nagar-Saket G Block corridor will connect multiple lines with eight stations.

These corridors approved by the Union Cabinet chaired by PM Modi, will significantly improve interconnectivity among all operational lines of the Delhi Metro network. With eight new interchange stations set to come up on these corridors, commuters will experience enhanced connectivity and better access to various areas of Delhi and beyond. The Delhi Metro is currently constructing a network of 65 km as part of its fourth phase, expected to be completed by March 2026.

Presently, the DMRC operates a network of 391 km consisting of 286 stations, making it one of the fastest-growing Metro networks globally. The development of these new corridors is a testament to the government’s commitment to enhancing urban transportation infrastructure and providing efficient public transport options for the residents of Delhi.
