PM Modi inaugurates foundation stone laying ceremony for three chip projects, signaling a major step towards becoming a global hub

In a significant development for India’s semiconductor industry, PM Modi virtually laid the foundation stone for three projects worth Rs 1.25 lakh crore, just 15 days after the Union Cabinet’s approval. The event, ‘India’s Techade: Chips for Viksit Bharat’, saw the Prime Minister highlighting the country’s role in the global semiconductor market.

PM Modi emphasized the importance of high-end chips in the 21st century and India’s contribution to the Industry 4.0 revolution. The Minister of Communications and IT praised PM Modi’s leadership, stating that the country’s dream of manufacturing semiconductors is now becoming a reality, thanks to the ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’ mission.

The projects include the semiconductor fabrication facility at DSIR, Gujarat; the OSAT facility at Morigaon, Assam; and the OSAT facility at Sanand, Gujarat. The fabrication facility at DSIR will be the first commercial semiconductor fab in the country, set up by Tata Electronics Private Limited with an investment of over Rs 91,000 crore.

The OSAT facility in Morigaon, also by Tata Electronics Private Limited, will have an investment of around Rs 27,000 crore. Additionally, the OSAT facility in Sanand will be established by CG Power and Industrial Solutions Limited, with an investment of about Rs 7,500 crore. PM Modi’s vision aims to make India a key player in the global semiconductor market, marking a significant step towards technological advancement.
