Police finally register FIR against Shahjahan on complaints by Sandeshkhali villagers

West Bengal Police has finally registered an FIR against Trinamool Congress leader Sheikh Shahjahan based on multiple complaints filed by villagers of Sandeshkhali. The FIR includes charges of harassment of women, forceful land grabbing, and flooding farmland with saline water.

Sheikh Shahjahan is also accused of orchestrating an attack on ED and CAPF personnel on January 5 in Sandeshkhali. Calcutta High Court Chief Justice clarified that there is no stay order on his arrest, contradicting claims made by TMC General Secretary Abhishek Banerjee.

The Chief Justice stated, “There is no restriction on the state police seeking to arrest Sheikh Shahjahan. The stay was only on the formation of a joint SIT for investigating the attack, not on arresting him.” The court has directed Shahjahan to be made a party in the case with the next hearing scheduled for March 4.

The FIR has been registered at Sandeshkhali Police Station based on 70 complaints against Sheikh Shahjahan by villagers. This includes allegations of land grabbing and harassment. The district police official confirmed the registration of the FIR against the absconding TMC leader.
