Presidential Elections Polling in Pakistan in Progress

Polling to elect the 14th President of Pakistan is underway at Sindh Provincial Assembly on Saturday. Asif Ali Zardari, the joint candidate of PPP and PML-N, and Mahmood Khan Achakzai from Sunni Ittehad Council are in the fray, with voting conducted through a secret ballot.

The President is elected by an electoral college comprising members from the Senate, National Assembly, and the four provincial assemblies. Islamabad High Court Chief Justice Aamer Farooq is the presiding officer for the elections being held at the parliament house, where Members of the National Assembly and the Senate are exercising their right to vote.

Asif Ali Zardari, husband of late Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto and father of former Foreign Affairs Minister Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, is set to become the President. Earlier, Bilawal Bhutto Zardari assured PML(N) parliamentarians that his father will take care of Punjab lawmakers as he takes care of him during his presidency.

The polling, which began at 10 a.m., will conclude at 4 p.m., as reported by Dawn news. Stay tuned for the latest updates on the election proceedings.
