President's rule in Puducherry, Congress government fell due to failure of floor test

The political crisis has been going on in Puducherry for the last several days. The Center has imposed President’s rule in Puducherry on Wednesday. After the Congress government fell in the past, the Union Cabinet approved the decision to impose President’s rule. Earlier this week, the Narayanasamy government of Congress fell due to a lack of confidence vote.

President Ram Nath Kovind has accepted the resignation of Puducherry Chief Minister V Narayanasamy and his Council of Ministers a day after losing confidence in the Assembly.

A notification issued by the Union Home Ministry on Tuesday said that the President has accepted the resignation of his Council of Ministers including Puducherry Chief Minister V Narayanasamy from 22 February. A copy of the notification was made available to the media by the Lt. Governor of Puducherry.

Chief Secretary Ashwani Kumar said that the notification has been republished in the Gazette of Puducherry Government. The Congress government collapsed in Puducherry on Monday due to the resignation of Chief Minister Narayanasamy before voting on the motion of confidence. Recently, the union government was reduced to a minority due to the resignation of several Congress MLAs and a DMK MLA who is supporting from outside. Narayanasamy met Lieutenant Governor Tamilisai Sundararajan and submitted his resignation to the four-member cabinet.
