Prez Murmu heads to Mauritius for National Day celebrations

President Droupadi Murmu of India began a state visit to Mauritius on March 11 to attend the National Day celebrations as the chief guest. The visit aims to strengthen ties between the two nations and highlight India’s development partnership with Mauritius.

During the visit, President Murmu and Prime Minister Pravind Jugnauth will inaugurate 14 India-assisted projects, showcasing the depth of India’s assistance to Mauritius. This visit follows the recent joint inauguration of various development projects in Agalega Island by Prime Ministers Narendra Modi and Jugnauth.

President Murmu will also engage in bilateral meetings with Mauritian leaders including President Prithvirajsing Roopun and PM Jugnauth. Additionally, she will witness the exchange of key bilateral agreements to enhance institutional collaboration and capacity-building cooperation between India and Mauritius.

As part of her itinerary, President Murmu will visit significant historical and cultural sites in Mauritius, paying homage to leaders at the Pamplemousses Botanical Garden and visiting sites like Aapravasi Ghat and the Intercontinental Slavery Museum. She will also address Mauritian youth, members of the Indian diaspora, and the Indian community during her visit.

The Ministry of External Affairs highlighted the significance of President Murmu’s visit, emphasizing the enduring ties between India and Mauritius. The President’s attendance at the National Day celebrations as the chief guest signifies the long-standing relationship between the two nations and the commitment to further strengthen bilateral cooperation.
