Programme by IIT Roorkee aims to promote design-driven innovation in MSMEs

New Delhi, March 3 (IANS) Leading the charge in innovation in the country’s Micro, Small & Medium Enterprises (MSME) sector, the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Roorkee recently organized an awareness programme on the MSME Innovative (Design) Scheme. The event, held on Saturday, aimed to bridge the gap between industry and academia in fostering design-driven innovation.

Prof. Inderdeep Singh, Head of the Department of Design and Coordinator of the Design Innovation Centre at IIT Roorkee, emphasized the importance of design thinking in enhancing the competitiveness and sustainability of MSMEs. The collaboration with industry stakeholders and academia aims to drive economic growth and societal progress through a culture of innovation.

Design awareness plays a crucial role in empowering MSMEs to leverage design thinking throughout their product lifecycle. By adopting a design-centric approach, IIT Roorkee enables MSMEs to improve product quality, market relevance, and overall competitiveness in the sector.

Prof. K.K. Pant, Director of IIT Roorkee, expressed gratitude for spearheading the ‘MSME Innovative (Design) Scheme’ in partnership with the Ministry of MSME and industry collaborators. The institute is dedicated to bridging the gap between academia and industry, guiding MSMEs towards innovative design solutions for increased competitiveness in the dynamic manufacturing landscape.
