Qualcomm Launches New Chip Design Center and 6G Research Program in India

Chip-maker Qualcomm has inaugurated a new chip design centre in Chennai with an investment of Rs. 177.27 crore. The centre will focus on wireless connectivity solutions and is expected to create job opportunities for 1,600 skilled technology professionals. It aligns with the government’s ‘Make in India’ vision and supports 6G University Research in India.

Union Minister for Communications, Electronics & Information Technology, Ashwini Vaishnaw, highlighted India’s technological advancements and the commitment to digital progress at the inauguration. He expressed support for Qualcomm in accelerating India’s digital journey and connecting millions of Indians through 5G connectivity.

Rahul Patel, Group General Manager at Qualcomm Technologies, emphasized the new design centre’s role in shaping global connectivity, particularly in India. The centre will contribute to Qualcomm’s global Research and Development efforts in 5G Cellular technology, marking a significant milestone for the company and the tech talent it will nurture.
