Rahat Fateh Ali Khan Seen Beating His Student With A Shoe In A Viral Video, Netizens Outraged

Noted Pakistani singer and Qawwali exponent Ustad Rahat Fateh Ali Khan is in the news for the wrong reasons. A video, which has since gone viral, shows the singer beating up a man with a slipper. Netizens have derided the singer for his inappropriate act and also lamented the state of affairs where a person can blatantly beat anyone with impunity for the flimsiest of reasons. Rahat Fateh Ali Khan has since issued a statement, saying that the incident was a private matter between a student and his teacher.

The video showed a man beating a person with a shoe, repeatedly asking the victim where the bottle is. The victim repeatedly shouted that he did not know where the bottle was while enduring the beating. On closer examination, it was revealed that the man beating the victim with a shoe was the prominent Pakistani singer Rahat Fateh Ali Khan. The video was posted on X (Formerly Twitter) by a user and was soon re-tweeted by innumerable users. The video also showed some bystanders who were trying to restrain the singer and pull him away from the victim.

The hapless victim was identified as an employee of the prominent Pakistani broadcaster ‘Samaa TV,’ and netizens severely reprimanded the singer for his unbecoming act. Netizens lamented how prominent personalities, drunk with their stature and popularity, go beyond the limits of decency and treat lesser mortals with indignity.

The damage was already done when Rahat Fateh Ali Khan issued a clarification; it found few takers. Rahat Fateh Ali Khan is the nephew of the illustrious late Sufi singer Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan. What irked the fans was the fact that Rahat’s uncle Nusrat was the epitome of decency and humility; Rahat’s action has brought disrepute to his famous uncle’s name.

Rahat clarified in a post on the microblogging site that the incident was a private matter between a shagird (student) and ustaad (Teacher) and said that just like a teacher congratulating his student for an achievement, the teacher also reprimands him for a mistake. Khan also added that he had apologized to the man for his actions.

The victim, who is said to be a student of Rahat, also issued a statement saying that there was no ill intent in his teacher’s action and Rahat was like a father to him. It also highlighted the relationship between an ustaad and a shagird, which is like a son and a father. The student also said that the whole incident was blown out of proportion and was spread to defame his teacher. As for the mistake committed, the student said that he had misplaced a bottle of holy water.
