Rahul and Priyanka Gandhi to kick off Lok Sabha campaign in Uttar Pradesh starting on Wednesday

The Congress party is gearing up for campaigning in Uttar Pradesh as the first phase of elections comes to a close. Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra are set to campaign in west Uttar Pradesh on Wednesday. Rahul will address media in Ghaziabad while Priyanka will hold a roadshow in Saharanpur.

A senior Congress leader stated, “Rahul Gandhi and SP chief Akhilesh Yadav will address a joint press conference in Ghaziabad. Priyanka Gandhi Vadra will hold a road show in Saharanpur on the same day.” The campaigning is crucial as Saharanpur goes to polls on April 19 and Ghaziabad on April 26.

The Congress and the SP are contesting the Lok Sabha polls as part of the opposition INDIA bloc. Congress is contesting 17 seats in UP while SP is contesting 62 seats. The alliance has left one seat for the Trinamool Congress. The parties have held coordination meetings to ensure a strong alliance at grassroots levels.

SP chief Akhilesh Yadav started campaigning on April 12 while the Gandhis are beginning their campaign in the state now. The joint campaign is expected to garner support for the parties in the upcoming phases of the elections in Uttar Pradesh.
