Rajasthan government initiates specialized geriatric units in district hospitals

Jaipur, March 16 (IANS) The Rajasthan government has established specialized geriatric wards in 49 district hospitals across the state to cater to the healthcare needs of elderly individuals. Known as ‘Ramashray’, these units were initiated as part of the 100-day action plan by Health Minister Gajendra Singh and on the directions of Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma.

The ‘Ramashray’ facility has been implemented in district hospitals to ensure the elderly receive proper treatment and care. Additional Chief Secretary of the Health Department, Shubhra Singh, mentioned that special arrangements have been made in these wards such as nursing alarm systems near beds for emergency calls, separate toilets with grab bars, and availability of physiotherapists and equipment.

Director of Public Health, Ravi Prakash Mathur, stated that each ward has a designated nodal officer to oversee operations. A list of contact numbers for doctors, nursing staff, physiotherapists, and other personnel is displayed outside the ward for easy access. The initiative aims to enhance healthcare services for the elderly population in the state’s district hospitals.

The implementation of specialized geriatric wards in district hospitals underscores the Rajasthan government’s commitment to prioritizing the healthcare needs of elderly citizens. The ‘Ramashray’ units will offer focused care and support for the elderly, ensuring their well-being and comfort during their stay in the hospitals.
