Rajeev Chandrasekhar: Govt set to launch Bharat Semiconductor Research Centre soon
The government is soon expected to launch the Bharat Semiconductor Research Centre, a global standard institution, announced by Union Minister Rajeev Chandrasekhar at the AIRSS 2024 event at IIT Madras. The centre will be a PPP initiative in collaboration with industry experts and academia.
Chandrasekhar highlighted that the research centre will compete with global leaders like IMEC and MIT Microelectronics, establishing itself as a key player in semiconductor research. The centre will focus on various areas like materials, physics, transistors, and system innovation with top universities and colleges of India collaborating on research.
The minister emphasized the rapid growth of India’s semiconductor ecosystem in the past two years, stating that the country has made significant progress in design innovation. With the development of a product ecosystem in various sectors like automotive, industrial, and telecom, India is poised to become a semiconductor hub with the influx of international companies setting up units in the country.
Chandrasekhar highlighted the importance of the semiconductor sector in the global economy, noting that India’s journey towards becoming a semiconductor nation aligns with Prime Minister Modi’s vision. With advancements in manufacturing technologies and design innovation, the semiconductor ecosystem in India is flourishing and attracting investments from key players in the industry.
