According to the Financial Times, Musk has obtained thousands of GPUs from Nvidia Corp., which power the computing necessary for demanding activities like AI and advanced graphics. The chip maker’s shares rose on Friday due to the story; the firm declined to comment. A state file revealed that Musk registered the X.AI Corp, a Nevada-incorporated company, last month. Jared Birchall, the managing director of Musk’s business office, is listed as the company’s secretary and Musk is listed as its sole director.

If the business was associated with Musk’s rumored AI start-up aspirations was unclear. Musk did not answer an inquiry for comment from Reuters. OpenAI, which was founded as a non-profit organization in 2015, includes Musk as one of its co-founders. In 2018, he resigned from the board of the business.
