Report: Pakistan experiences 97 militant attacks in February

Pakistan experienced a rise in militant attacks in February, with 97 incidents resulting in 87 fatalities and 118 injuries, according to the Pakistan Institute for Conflict and Security Studies (PICSS). The casualties slightly decreased compared to January, despite a marginal increase in attacks.

The PICSS report highlighted a significant escalation in violence in Balochistan province, with a 72 per cent spike in militant attacks compared to January. This increase resulted in 42 deaths and 72 injuries in February. In contrast, there was a decline in attacks in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province.

The spike in attacks in Balochistan was particularly concentrated in the first week of February, with 50 out of 57 attacks occurring from February 1 to 8. These attacks were linked to the general elections that took place on February 8, as per the report. The situation in Pakistan remains volatile, with security measures being closely monitored to prevent further casualties and maintain stability.
