Report: Perth chosen as host for next season’s Border-Gavaskar Trophy opener

Perth to host opening match of Australia-India Test series

New Delhi, March 19 (IANS) – According to a report, Perth will host the opening match of the next season’s Border-Gavaskar Test series between Australia and India. The series will see Adelaide and Brisbane hosting the second and third tests, with Melbourne and Sydney keeping their traditional timeslots for the Boxing Day and New Year’s Tests.

The report from the Sydney Morning Herald confirms Perth Stadium as the venue for the first Test. However, Cricket Australia is yet to finalize the schedule, and the formal announcement is expected by the end of the month. Despite the historic significance of the series, Brisbane misses out on being the opening Test venue for the Australia home summer.

Australia’s strong track record at Perth Stadium includes never having lost a Test match there. The team secured victories over West Indies and Pakistan in recent years. India, on the other hand, has been dominant in recent Test series against Australia, winning on Australian soil in 2018–19 and 2020–21.

During the 2021 tour, India bounced back from a crushing defeat in Adelaide to win the series 2-1, thanks to victories in Melbourne and Brisbane. The upcoming Border-Gavaskar Test series is eagerly awaited by fans of both teams, as the cricketing rivalry between Australia and India continues to captivate audiences worldwide.
