Reports: New Zealand’s Luke Ronchi in discussions for Pakistan head coach position

Pakistan Cricket Board in discussions with Luke Ronchi for head coach role
Lahore, March 26 (IANS) The Pakistan Cricket Board is reportedly in talks with former New Zealand player Luke Ronchi to lead their senior men’s team. The PCB is looking to fill the coaching vacancy left by previous coaches like Mickey Arthur, Grant Bradburn, and Andrew Puttick, who have been transferred to the National Cricket Academy in Lahore. Ronchi, currently the batting coach of New Zealand senior men’s team, is being considered for the role.

Ronchi, 42, has represented Australia and New Zealand in 4 Tests, 85 ODIs, and 33 T20Is. He has also played league cricket for various teams in countries like Guyana Amazon Warriors, Islamabad United, Mumbai Indians, and Perth Scorchers. The PCB had approached Ronchi after talks with Shane Watson fell through. Earlier, Mike Hesson and Darren Sammy were also considered for the position.

Reports suggest that Shane Watson cited prior coaching and commentary commitments, while Darren Sammy mentioned contractual obligations with the West Indies board as reasons for not pursuing the coaching role with Pakistan. This is the second time the PCB has approached Ronchi, after previously being turned down for a similar offer.

If appointed, Luke Ronchi will bring extensive playing experience and coaching knowledge to the Pakistan team. The decision is crucial for the PCB as they aim to strengthen their coaching staff for future successes in international cricket.
