Resolution on caste survey is eyewash: BRS leader Kavitha

BRS Leader Terms Telangana Assembly’s Caste Census Resolution as Eyewash

Hyderabad, Feb 17 (IANS) – K. Kavitha, leader of Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS), has criticized the resolution passed in the Telangana Assembly for conducting a caste census in the state, terming it as an eyewash. She alleged that the resolution was a politically motivated move by the Congress government with an eye on the Lok Sabha polls.

Kavitha expressed her doubts about the government’s sincerity in providing political reservation for OBCs and questioned why it did not bring a Bill for caste census. She argued that the resolution presented by the Congress government was insincere and would not empower the government to conduct a meaningful survey.

The BRS leader stated that if the Congress government was truly committed to the cause, it should have brought a Bill in the Assembly on the lines of other states like Bihar, Karnataka, and Andhra Pradesh. She emphasized the need for a time-bound process with allocated budget to effectively address the issue.

Furthermore, Kavitha highlighted the demands from various quarters across the country for a caste census and claimed that it was only after pressure from BRS and the people that the government passed a resolution. She stressed the necessity for a concrete and positive approach instead of diversionary tactics in politics.

In response to the government’s presentation of a whitepaper on irrigation projects as a diversion from the demand for a Bill, Kavitha accused the government of failing to implement its promises and resorting to tactics to divert attention from pressing issues.

The BRS leader, along with other parties in the Assembly, demanded the government to bring a Bill for conducting the census and assured their support for the same.

The article portrays the concerns raised by K. Kavitha regarding the sincerity of the Telangana Assembly’s resolution for conducting a caste census. She questions the government’s motives and emphasizes the need for a more effective and concrete approach to address the issue.
