Resurfacing of Highways Connecting Lucknow to Kanpur and Ayodhya

Lucknow, April 4 (IANS) – The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) is set to resurface two key highways connecting Lucknow with Kanpur and Ayodhya. The repair works will involve laying 100 mm of bitumen on the existing highways to improve the deteriorating quality of the roads.

The Lucknow-Kanpur highway has suffered due to lack of maintenance, while the Lucknow-Ayodhya highway has inconsistencies in thickness due to patching works. Both highways will be resurfaced before the monsoon season to provide a smoother ride for commuters.

Saurabh Chaurasiya, director of NHAI’s Lucknow project implementation unit, mentioned that the tenders have been awarded and contractors will begin work within two weeks. A budget of Rs 100 crore has been allocated for the Lucknow-Kanpur highway and Rs 350 crore for the Lucknow-Ayodhya highway.

NHAI is also working on a greenfield expressway between Lucknow, Unnao, and Kanpur to enhance connectivity to the Trans-Ganga city. Chaurasiya stated, “As barricades and heavy machines are already deputed for the expressway work, we have prioritized the repair of the Bani to Jajmau stretch before tackling the rest of the highway post-monsoon.”

Additionally, a project to widen the Barabanki-Rupaidiha national highway has also been shortlisted. The extensive road stretch, essential for heavy vehicle movement between Bahraich and Nepalganj, is estimated to require a budget exceeding Rs 3,000 crore for land acquisition and widening.

These developments signify the NHAI’s commitment to enhancing road infrastructure in Uttar Pradesh, ensuring smoother and safer travel experiences for commuters.
