Rise in Murders and Extortion in Kalaburagi during Priyank Kharge’s Tenure: Karnataka BJP
BENGALURU (IANS) – The Karnataka BJP has raised concerns over the increase in murders and extortion in Kalaburagi district following the appointment of Minister Priyank Kharge as the District in-charge Minister. The BJP alleges that the situation has worsened under his tenure, with party workers and leaders falling victim to violence.
According to the Karnataka BJP, “Priyank Kharge is a troll minister. During his tenure, incidents of murders and extortion have increased. After he took over as the District in-charge Minister of Kalaburagi, BJP workers and leaders have been hacked to death one after the other.”
The BJP has accused Priyank Kharge of allowing nefarious elements to take control of Kalaburagi, directly blaming him for the deteriorating law and order situation in the district. The party has called for Chief Minister Siddaramaiah to dismiss Kharge from his position.
The recent incident that has sparked outrage involved the killing of BJP leader Girish Chakra, a close associate of BJP MP Umesh Jadhav from Kalaburagi. Chakra was invited to a felicitation party and was brutally attacked at a farm in Saganura village near Afzalpur taluk. The assailants threw chili powder into his eyes before hacking him to death.
Umesh Jadhav expressed his grief over the loss, stating, “There is no law and order in Kalaburagi. There is a fearful environment in the district. Girish was like a son to me. He had worked tirelessly for the party for 10 years. The killers must be arrested immediately.”
Kalaburagi, known as the stronghold of Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge’s family, has been a key battleground for political power. The BJP’s victory in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, where Umesh Jadhav defeated Mallikarjun Kharge, further intensified tensions in the region. The BJP continues to push for justice and accountability in the face of escalating violence in Kalaburagi.
