Rishabh Pant expected to be cleared by NCA on March 5 for IPL 2024, reveals Sourav Ganguly from Delhi Capitals

New Delhi, March 2 (IANS) – Indian cricket fans can rejoice as wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant is on track to make a full recovery and return to action soon, according to former India captain and Delhi Capitals’ Director of Cricket, Sourav Ganguly. Pant has been sidelined since a December 2022 accident.

Ganguly disclosed that Pant has been diligent in his efforts to regain fitness, leading to a potential clearance from the National Cricket Academy (NCA). The decision on Pant’s captaincy for the upcoming IPL season, commencing on March 22, is still pending.

“We will await Pant’s fitness assessment on March 5 before finalizing the captaincy. We are prioritizing his long-term career and will proceed cautiously. Pant’s reaction to gameplay and his fitness level will guide our decisions moving forward,” Ganguly stated.

Despite undergoing multiple surgeries and rigorous rehabilitation, Pant’s return to cricket remains a significant milestone. However, Ganguly implied that Pant may not immediately resume wicketkeeping duties, suggesting alternative options like Kumar Kushagra, Ricky Bhui, Shai Hope, and Tristan Stubbs.

Expressing optimism about Pant’s comeback, Ganguly emphasized his importance to the team’s success. “Rishabh coming back fit is a huge addition for us. We hope he plays the full season because he is a very special player,” Ganguly mentioned in an interview with a national daily.

With Pant’s potential return looming, Delhi Capitals and fans eagerly await his comeback and the impact he can make in the upcoming cricket season. Stay tuned for further updates as Pant’s journey towards recovery progresses.
