Robbery bid foiled in Delhi; attackers fire in air before fleeing

Four armed assailants attempted to rob a jewelry shop owner’s bag containing cash and ornaments at gunpoint in northeast Delhi. The incident took place at the Pusta Main Market area where the accused fired four rounds in the air before fleeing from the spot. Despite being hit by the pistols’ butts, the jeweler and his father managed to hold on to the bag.

According to the police, the incident occurred around 9:30 p.m. on Sunday when Mohit Pandey and his father, Rajesh Pandey, had just closed their jewelry shop and were about to leave. The four assailants tried to snatch Mohit’s bag, which contained Rs 3,000, some silver jewelry, and keys. When they were unable to snatch the bag, they physically assaulted Mohit and his father before fleeing on two motorcycles.

DCP Joy Tirkey confirmed that both the father and son sustained minor head injuries, and three empty shells and three live rounds were found at the scene. The police are currently scanning the CCTV footage from the area to gather more information about the incident.

The police received a PCR call at 9:41 p.m. regarding the firing near the jewelry shop, and upon reaching the spot, they launched an investigation into the attempted robbery. The authorities are urging anyone with information about the incident to come forward and assist with the ongoing investigation.
