French-Polish director Roman Polanski Faces New Lawsuit Alleging Rape Of Minor
The director of “The Pianist,” French-Polish director Roman Polanski, is facing a lawsuit alleging that he raped a minor in the 1970s.
Polanski was previously arrested on charges of raping a 13-year-old in 1977. Since then, he has fled the United States and has been evading extradition for the last four decades.
The lawsuit has been filed by an unnamed plaintiff, represented by attorney Gloria Allred.
Roman Polanski’s name was revealed after the court permitted the plaintiff to name the director as the defendant.
The lawsuit alleges that Roman Polanski invited the teenager to dinner and, after drugging her, engaged in sexual acts despite her refusal.
The charges against Polanski include rape, sexual battery, and intentional infliction of emotional distress.
This legal action was made possible by a 2020 amendment to California’s statute of limitations, which allows victims of childhood sexual abuse more time to pursue legal action.
Roman Polanski has been out of reach of U.S. law since the 1970s, when he was arrested for raping Samantha Geimer in 1977 when she was 13 years old.
He fled to France when it became apparent that the presiding judge intended to overturn a plea deal, which would have led to a lengthy sentence.
Although Samantha Geimer has recently requested the court to dismiss the criminal case against him and to sentence him to time served in absentia, the court has not complied
However, Roman Polanski’s troubles are far from over, and the latest lawsuit is only adding to his difficulties.
He is also facing a trial in France in a defamation case. Furthermore, there is an effort underway to unseal testimony to investigate potential judicial misconduct in his original case.
Polanski was also accused of sexual assault by British actress Charlotte Lewis in the 1980s.
Despite efforts to extradite him to the U.S., France and Poland have resisted, and Polanski’s chances of returning appear bleak, especially with the potential unsealing of testimony that could impact his legal standing.
