Russian attack on Ukraine kills 5, leaves dozens injured
Kiev, March 23 (IANS) – A recent wave of Russian missile and drone strikes on Ukraine has resulted in at least five deaths and 26 injuries, according to a statement from the National Police. Three people were killed and 15 injured in the southern Zaporizhzhia region, while two deaths and eight injuries were reported in the western Khmelnytsky region.
The attacks targeted Ukraine’s largest hydroelectric station, DniproHes, in Zaporizhzhia, causing significant damage to the region’s power supplies. Ukrainian authorities have described the air strikes as the largest attack on the country’s energy infrastructure to date, with more than 100 buildings and energy facilities affected.
The Russian Defence Ministry confirmed the attacks, stating that the Russian military launched massive missile and drone strikes on energy and military facilities in Ukraine. The Ministry reported using high-precision long-range weapons against various targets, including energy facilities, military-industrial complexes, and railway junctions.
The ongoing conflict between Russia and Ukraine shows no signs of easing, as both sides continue to engage in violent confrontations. The latest attacks have further escalated tensions and raised concerns about the safety and security of civilians in the region. The international community closely monitors the situation as efforts to de-escalate the conflict remain a top priority.
