Russian PM announces historic record for country’s life expectancy in 2023

Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin announced that the country’s life expectancy in 2023 has surpassed pre-pandemic levels, reaching a historic high of almost 73.5 years. This achievement has never been seen in the history of the former Soviet Union or modern Russia.

Mishustin stated, “At the end of last year, life expectancy in Russia reached almost 73.5 years.” This positive development comes after a decline during the COVID-19 pandemic, with life expectancy dropping to 71.5 years in 2020 from 73.3 years in 2019, according to Russia’s Federal State Statistics Service.

Russian President Vladimir Putin has set ambitious goals for the future, stating in February that the country aims to increase life expectancy to at least 78 years by 2030. This announcement reflects the government’s commitment to improving the health and well-being of its citizens.

The rise in life expectancy in Russia is a significant milestone that showcases the country’s progress in healthcare and public health initiatives. As the nation continues to combat the challenges posed by the pandemic, the increase in life expectancy serves as a positive indicator of resilience and determination in the face of adversity.
