Sadanand Vasant named as new NIA chief; BPRD and NDRF to have new DGs

New Delhi, March 27 (IANS) The Centre has appointed Sadanand Vasant Date as the Director General of the National Investigation Agency (NIA), with IPS officers Rajeev Kumar Sharma and Piyush Anand appointed as DGs of Bureau of Police Research and Development (BPRD) and National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) respectively. The appointments were approved by the Secretariat of the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet Ministry of Personnel.

According to an order issued on Tuesday, Sadanand Vasant Date, IPS (MH/90), will serve as the Director General of NIA in Level-16 until his superannuation on December 31, 2026, or until further orders, succeeding Dinkar Gupta, IPS (PB/87), upon his superannuation on March 31, 2024. Rajeev Kumar Sharma, an IPS officer from the Rajasthan cadre (1990 batch), has been appointed as the DG of BPRD for a tenure up to his superannuation on June 30, 2026, or until further orders.

IPS officer Piyush Anand, from the Uttar Pradesh cadre (1991 batch), who is currently serving as the Special DG of CISF, has been appointed as the chief of NDRF. The appointments mark significant changes in the leadership of key security and disaster response agencies in the country.

These appointments come at a crucial time when the nation is facing various security challenges and disaster management situations. The newly appointed officials will play a vital role in ensuring the safety and security of the country and its citizens.
