Salwan Momika, Notorious for Burning Quran, Allegedly Found Dead

Salwan Momika, the Iraqi refugee who had first sought asylum in Sweden and gained notoriety for publically burning the Holy Quran several times has been found dead in Norway as per unconfirmed reports. 

Salwan Momika is a former Iraqi Militia leader and later became an atheist and a critic of Islam. He gained global notoriety for championing free speech and public burning of the Koran. He called himself an Ex Muslim.

As per Radio Genoa his lifeless body has been found in Norway where he had shifted a week before from Sweden asking for political asylum. However radio Genoa removed the post and stated that further confirmation is being awaited.

Radio Genoa posted on X,  “Those who announced Momika’s death with over 1 million impressions deleted the tweet. We are waiting for further confirmation,”.

Salwan Momika had in a post on March 27, 2024 said that he had shifted to Norway and was under the protection of Norwegian authorities

Salwan Momika’s post said,  “I applied for asylum and international protection in Norway because Sweden does not accept asylum for philosophers and thinkers, but only accepts asylum for terrorists. My love and respect for the Swedish people will remain the same, but the persecution I was subjected to by the Swedish authorities does not represent the Swedes,”

Different media outlets have reported that Salwan’s lifeless body was found in Norway. However an official confirmation is awaited.

Momika Burnt Quran Outside Stockholm Mosque

Salwan Momika burnt the Holy Quran outside the Stockholm mosque in Sweden on Bakra Eid 2023 on June 28 2023 in an insulting act which led to worldwide condemnation and widespread protests. The Iraqi Government expelled the then Swedish Ambassador from the country.

Salwan Sabah Matti Momika is a 37-year-old Iraqi refugee who first asked for permission to burn the nHoly Quran but went on to burn the holy book and later. He openly expressed his opposition and animosity towards the Islamic religious text and wanted it to be banned. Momika had fled from Iraq and sought refuge in Sweden a few years ago and lived in Järna in Södertälje, Stockholm County.

Sweden had annulled Momika’s residence permit but delayed his deportation after fears that he will be killed if he returns to his native country Iraq. Sweden had allowed Momika’s Holy Koran burning act as freedom of speech. However his actions were perceived as an act which will disturb peace and will also precipitate terror attacks on Sweden. Swedish police, however, filed preliminary hate speech charges against him.
