Sandeshkhali: Trinamool leader who locked himself in house after being chased by women rescued by cops

Kolkata, Feb 25 (IANS): Trinamool Congress leader Ajit Maiti, from West Bengal’s Sandeshkhali area, was rescued by police after being chased by local women. Allegations suggest he was involved in illegal activities against women. Maiti has been detained and may face arrest.

On Sunday, ministers Partha Bhowmik and Sujit Basu attended a public function in Sandeshkhali. When Maiti arrived, he was chased by angry villagers, leading him to lock himself in his house. Police intervened to eventually detain him after a standoff with the crowd.

The local women accuse Maiti of land grabbing, converting it for pisciculture, and harassing them. Police sources indicate that Maiti is currently detained and could face arrest in connection with these allegations.

Despite attempts by police to disperse the crowd, villagers continued to gather outside Maiti’s residence. Eventually, with the intervention of the police, Maiti was persuaded to come out of his house and was taken into custody for further questioning.

The incident highlights the tension in the area, with local women speaking out against alleged oppression by Trinamool Congress leaders. The police are investigating the matter further to ensure justice for the victims involved in the case.
