Sandeshkhali unrest: Guv hints at using his authority if state govt fails to take action

West Bengal Governor C.V. Ananda Bose has hinted at using his constitutional authority if the state government fails to address the grievances of women in Sandeshkhali alleging sexual harassment by Trinamool Congress workers. Governor stressed that if the government fails to act, he will intervene to ensure the problems are solved.

Ananda Bose stated, “If the state government fails to act as per constitutional norms, the Governor will exercise his constitutional power.” He emphasized the urgency of the situation as over 800 petitions have been submitted against the accused persons in Sandeshkhali. The Governor made these remarks while addressing a program in Hooghly district.

The Calcutta High Court Chief highlighted that there is no stay order on the arrest of absconding Trinamool Congress leader Sheikh Shahjahan, the alleged mastermind behind the attack on ED and CAPF officers at Sandeshkhali on January 5. Governor Bose acknowledged the court’s statement, emphasizing that there should be no excuse for not arresting the accused. He emphasized the importance of the court’s role in the democratic system and vowed to look into the matter.
