Sanjay Singh to not oversee wrestling trials, ad-hoc committee to take charge, Sakshi Malik reveals

New Delhi, March 7 (IANS) Olympic bronze medallist Sakshi Malik revealed that the Delhi High Court has ordered Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) president Sanjay Singh to not hold any national trials. This development follows last year’s wrestling saga, which saw Sakshi and other protesting wrestlers taking action against the WFI’s selection trials. The court has instructed an ad-hoc committee to conduct trials instead of Sanjay Singh.

In an exclusive conversation with IANS, Sakshi expressed relief over the court’s decision. She stated, “We have filed a complaint in the Delhi High Court and the court has ordered that no trials will take place under Sanjay Singh and an ad-hoc committee will only hold the trials. We believe that our fight for justice will prevail and a clean federation should come up and help wrestlers.”

When asked about her plans for returning to active wrestling, Sakshi mentioned the mental and physical challenges she faced. She emphasized the importance of being in the right mindset as an athlete. She expressed her hope that young wrestlers will continue to make India proud, following in her footsteps as an Olympic medalist.

Regarding the possibility of entering politics, Sakshi denied any such intentions. She stated, “Politics is not in my mind. There are other ways to help people and my fellow wrestlers. I will plan that accordingly.” The Haryana grappler is focused on finding alternative ways to support and empower her community and the sporting fraternity.
