Satwik-Chirag defeat world champions in BWF French Open semifinals; Lakshya falls short in men's singles

Top seeds and former men’s doubles champions Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty advanced to the BWF Super 750 French Open final for the third time after defeating reigning world champions Kang Minhyuk and Seo Seungjae in the semifinals. The Indian pair secured a spot in the summit clash against Chinese Taipei’s Lee Jhe-Huei and Yang Po-Hsuan on Sunday.

In a dominating performance, Satwik-Chirag won the semifinal match 21-13, 21-16, making it their third successive final of the 2024 season. Despite facing tough competition early in the first game, the Indian duo managed to take control and clinch the game comfortably. They continued their momentum in the second game, ultimately sealing the victory in 40 minutes.

However, Lakshya Sen’s impressive run in the men’s singles event came to an end as he was defeated by reigning world champion Kunlavut Vitidsarn in the semifinals. Despite the loss, Lakshya showed promising form throughout the tournament, securing victories over top-ranked opponents like Kanta Tsuneyama, Li Shi Feng, and Loh Kean Yew.

The Indian pair will now aim to claim the French Open title in the final against Chinese Taipei’s Lee Jhe-Huei and Yang Po-Hsuan. Satwik-Chirag will look to cap off a successful season with a victory in the prestigious BWF Super 750 event, showcasing their skills and determination on the court.
