SC Dismisses OPS’s Plea Against Madras HC’s Suo Moto Revision in DA Case

The Supreme Court dismissed the plea by O. Panneerselvam against the notice issued in the disproportionate asset case. The Madras High Court’s order was upheld, stating it will not affect the outcome of the revision petition. Justice Venkatesh highlighted unusual practices in case investigations.
The bench refused to interfere with the High Court’s decision, clarifying that the notice will not impact the case’s outcome. Justice Venkatesh criticized the DVAC for its practices of re-investigating cases against opposition leaders when they come to power. This move was seen as unusual in the criminal justice system, leading to a suo moto revision of the closed case.
Justice Venkatesh emphasized the need for fair treatment of all individuals, including MPs, MLAs, and ministers. The courts are expected to uphold justice for ordinary citizens as well as those in positions of power. The case raises concerns about transparency and fairness in the legal system, prompting a re-evaluation of investigative practices.–IANS
