Senior Women’s Hockey Nationals in Pune: Spotlight on Defending Champions M.P. and Hosts Maharashtra

Teams from 28 states, including defending champions Hockey Madhya Pradesh and runners-up Maharashtra, are set to compete in the 14th Hockey India Senior Women’s National Championship 2024 at Major Dhyanchand Hockey Stadium, Pune. The 11-day event will start on Wednesday and follow a league-cum-knockout format.

The tournament will see teams initially competing in eight groups in a round-robin contest. The group toppers will advance to the quarterfinals on March 20, followed by the semifinals on March 22 and the grand finale on March 23. Krishna Prakash (IPS), ADG Force One, Maharashtra, expressed pride in hosting the event and highlighted its significance.

Prakash emphasized the commitment to provide a royal experience for players with 4-star accommodations, setting a new standard for Indian hockey competitions. The support of the Directorate of Sports and Youth Affairs, Maharashtra, and co-hosts Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation was also acknowledged. Manoj Bhore, Organising Secretary, and Senior Vice President of Hockey Maharashtra expressed gratitude to all stakeholders.

The tournament’s impressive lineup of teams is anticipated to make it a competitive event. The opening day will feature six matches, including an evening match under floodlights between host Maharashtra and Hockey Kerala at 7 p.m., following the opening ceremony. The stage is set for an exciting and intense competition at the national championship.
