Several landslides block Srinagar-Jammu national highway
Srinagar, March 2 (IANS) Multiple landslides triggered by incessant rains have blocked the strategic Srinagar-Jammu national highway on Saturday. Officials confirmed that the landslides occurred between Banihal and Ramban sectors, leading to the closure of the highway. Due to these circumstances, no traffic will be allowed on the highway until the landslide clearance operation begins.
The decision to halt traffic on the highway was made as a precautionary measure to ensure the safety of motorists. Officials stated, “No traffic will be allowed on the highway on Saturday. Landslide clearance operation will start once the rain stops in the area.” It has been noted that due to bad patches in some areas, only one-way traffic had been permitted on the highway for the past week.
In addition to the Srinagar-Jammu highway, heavy snowfall has also impacted other major roads in the region. Roads such as Srinagar-Leh, Mughal Road, Sinthan-Kishtwar, Bandipora-Gurez, and Kupwara-Tangdhar have been blocked due to the ongoing heavy snowfall. The closure of these roads has brought about disruptions in transportation and travel for local residents and commuters.
The continuous inclement weather conditions have created challenges for authorities in ensuring the smooth flow of traffic and the safety of individuals traveling in the region. Efforts are underway to address the issues caused by the landslides and heavy snowfall, with the hope of reopening the affected roads as soon as possible. The situation is being closely monitored, and updates regarding the road conditions will be provided accordingly.
