Shankar Mahadevan, Zakir Hussain salute Pankaj Udhas: 'Took ghazal to masses'

Shankar Mahadevan, who collaborated with Pankaj Udhas on the album ‘Woh Ladki Yaad Aati Hai,’ remembered the late singer as someone who always encouraged and blessed others in the musical fraternity. He mentioned how Pankaj was a constant presence during important decisions in the music industry and how his children, Nayaab and Ojas, are remarkable individuals. Shankar expressed his condolences to the family and prayed for them to have the strength to cope with the loss.
Tabla maestro Zakir Hussain remembered Pankaj Udhas as not just a talented artist but also a great human being. Nirmal Udhas, Pankaj Udhas’ elder brother and a renowned ghazal singer, was visibly emotional as he paid his last respects to his brother. Nirmal, who was the first of the three brothers to pursue a singing career, joined others in grieving the loss of Pankaj. Pankaj Udhas passed away at the age of 72 in Mumbai after battling cancer. His funeral is scheduled to take place in Worli in the afternoon, with friends, family, and fans coming together to bid farewell to the legendary singer.
