Shillong Teer, the lottery game, is intricately linked to the culture of Meghalaya and the rules of the game are very simple. The players are required to correctly guess the number of arrows which have hit the target in an archery event.
The archery event is organized by the Meghalaya Government under the supervision of the Khasi Hills Archery Sports Association and the venue of the event is the Polo Grounds in Shillong. More than 50 archers participate in the event and the event is held in two phases. The first phase requires the archers to shoot 30 arrows at a target while in the second phase the archers shoot twenty arrows.
The player who wants to participate in the Shillong Teer can buy tickets of different denominations from Rs 1 to Rs 100 from more than 5000 lottery ticket vendors across the state. The player can bet for the first phase the second phase or both phases. If he has bought a ticket worth Rs 1 and correctly guessed the total number of arrows that have hit the target he gets a return of Rs 80 and if he has bet and guessed correctly the number of arrows hitting the bullseye in the second phase he gets Rs 60. However, if he has bet on both the phases he gets Rs 4000 as a reward.
