Therefore the state Government organizes Teer or archery events and to make it more exciting has linked it to a lottery, Shillong Teer Lottery. The lottery and the archery event is held daily except on Sundays. How the Teer event and the lottery are related is very unique.

From 10.30 a.m. people flock to over 5000 lottery kiosks spread across the state. Each lottery has a number on it and the people bet on this number. The lottery ticket is of different denominations from as low as INR 1 to INR 100.

If the number on the lottery is akin to the number of the arrows that hits the target in the Teer event the lottery owner gets a bounty. The amount depends upon the value of the lottery which he has purchased.
