Shivraj Chouhan to enter Lok Sabha elections after two decades

In a recent development, former Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, known for his strong political presence in the state, has been fielded by the BJP from Vidisha for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections. Chouhan, deeply rooted in RSS and BJP, began his parliamentary journey in 1991 from the same constituency.

Being a member of the RSS at a young age of 13, Chouhan’s alliance with the organization’s top leaders is well-known. He consistently won the Lok Sabha seat of Vidisha in 1996, 1998, 1999, and 2004, showcasing his strong political acumen.

Chouhan, who served as the Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh for over 17 years, is now making a comeback to contest the Lok Sabha elections after a gap of 20 years. He was instrumental in implementing various public welfare schemes during his tenure, establishing himself as a prominent BJP leader in the state.

After losing power to the Congress in 2018, Chouhan regained the Chief Minister’s position in 2020 following a political turmoil within the Congress party. Despite leading the BJP to victory in the 2023 Assembly elections, he was not granted a fifth term as Chief Minister, and Mohan Yadav replaced him.
