Shoaib Bashir reflects on the surreal past couple of months: an experience to cherish for a lifetime

Young England off-spinner Bashir, who made his Test debut on the tour of India, is set to make his debut in the ongoing County Championship season for Somerset. Bashir had a surreal experience playing for England after being picked up by Somerset unexpectedly and is grateful for the opportunity.

Bashir recalled his nervous debut in Visakhapatnam, walking out with big names like Ben Stokes and Joe Root. Despite the nerves, once he had the ball in his hand, he felt at home and performed well in his first three Test matches, taking 17 wickets.

Having been released by Surrey as a teenager, Somerset took him in and he is now ready to showcase his skills in England after bowling well in India. Bashir is excited for the challenge of bowling in different conditions and is focused on developing his skills as a spin bowler.

The young off-spinner acknowledges the presence of experienced spinner Jack Leach in the Somerset side but is open to moving to another team on loan for more game time. Bashir’s determination to prove himself and improve as a cricketer has been evident in his journey so far, and he is willing to do whatever it takes to continue his progress in the game.
