Shreyas Iyer hails impressive performance under pressure in IPL 2024, describes finishing off the game as the icing on the cake

Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) secured a comprehensive victory over Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) in the IPL, with Mitchell Starc and Phil Salt playing key roles. Starc’s 3/28 and Salt’s unbeaten 89 helped KKR win by eight wickets, earning their first-ever win over LSG in the tournament. Captain Shreyas Iyer praised his team’s execution with the ball and batting prowess in the chase.

Starc’s impressive bowling performance, supported by Sunil Narine, Vaibhav Arora, Varun Chakravarthy, and Andre Russell, restricted LSG to a below-par 161/7. Salt’s aggressive batting in the chase, with 14 fours and three sixes in his unbeaten 89 off 47 balls, ensured KKR’s victory with 26 balls to spare.

Speaking after the match, Iyer highlighted the team’s focus on executing their plans effectively. He praised the bowlers for their disciplined approach and credited the middle overs’ strangle by Narine and Chakravarthy for not allowing LSG to break free. Iyer emphasized the importance of staying focused and not taking any situation lightly in the tournament.

The victory on the Bengali New Year day marked the beginning of KKR’s five successive home matches on a positive note. Iyer stressed the need to maintain momentum and a unified mindset to continue performing well in the tournament. He commended his team’s character and attitude, urging them to stay on top of their game to build on their success.
