Six dead in Sydney mall mass stabbing, attacker killed

Six people were fatally stabbed by an attacker in Sydney’s Eastern Suburbs on Saturday, who was later shot dead by the police. The incident occurred at Westfield in Bondi Junction, a large shopping centre, at about 3.30 p.m. local time.

The New South Wales Police stated, “An officer was allegedly confronted by a man with a knife. The man allegedly lunged at the officer, before he was shot dead.” The attacker had fatally stabbed six people before being gunned down, while seven others were critically injured, as per local media reports.

Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese expressed his condolences, stating, “I have been briefed on the devastating events at Bondi Junction. Tragically, multiple casualties have been reported and our first thoughts are with those affected and their loved ones.” He also thanked the first responders and police for their bravery.
