Six UP varsities secure Rs 100 cr each funding under PM-USHA

Uttar Pradesh Secures Rs 740 Crore Under PM-USHA Programme

Uttar Pradesh has emerged as the top recipient of funding under the Pradhan Mantri Uchchatar Shiksha Abhiyan (PM-USHA) programme, securing a staggering Rs 740 crore. This amount, the highest in the country, will support the development of six universities as multi-disciplinary education and research universities. Additionally, eight other universities in the state will receive funding for renovating dilapidated buildings.

The six universities in Uttar Pradesh that will benefit from the PM-USHA programme by receiving Rs 100 crore each are the University of Lucknow, Dr Ram Manohar Lohia Awadh University in Ayodhya, Mahatma Jyotiba Phule Rohilhand University in Bareilly, Deen Dayal Upadhyay Gorakhpur University in Gorakhpur, Bundelkhand University in Jhansi, and Chaudhary Charan Singh University, Meerut.

Furthermore, out of the 52 universities identified nationwide under the strengthening of universities initiative, grants were allocated to eight universities in Uttar Pradesh. Dr Bhim Rao Ambedkar University, Agra, Chhatrapati Shahu Ji Maharaj University, Kanpur, Maa Shakumbhari University, Saharanpur, and Mahatma Gandhi Kashi Vidyapeeth, Varanasi, each received a grant of Rs 20 crore. Veer Bahadur Singh Purvanchal University, Jaunpur, received Rs 19.9 crore, while Prof Rajendra Singh (Rajju Brother) University in Prayagraj, also received Rs 19.9 crore. Jananayak Chandrashekhar University, Ballia, and Siddharth University Kapilvastu have received Rs 13.38 crore and Rs 6.53 crore, respectively.

The University of Lucknow expressed gratitude for the financial boost, emphasizing that the funds will be utilized to upgrade laboratories, modernize classrooms, foster innovation hubs, and promote interdisciplinary research. Similarly, Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Gorakhpur University intends to develop as a Multi-Disciplinary Education and Research University (MERU) in alignment with the National Education Policy (NEP) using the funding received under the PM-USHA scheme.

The Vice-Chancellor of University of Lucknow, Prof Alok Kumar Rai, stressed that the funding will play a pivotal role in elevating the institution to new heights of excellence, benefiting both students and faculty while contributing to the nation’s knowledge landscape. The Vice-Chancellor of Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Gorakhpur University, Prof Poonam Tandon, also expressed the university’s commitment to utilizing the funding to align with the goals outlined in the NEP.

The allocation of Rs 740 crore under the PM-USHA programme underscores the government’s commitment to enhancing the educational infrastructure and promoting research capabilities in Uttar Pradesh, ultimately contributing to the advancement of higher education in the state.

This support is a significant step towards elevating the academic and research potential of these universities, symbolizing a positive stride toward a more robust educational ecosystem in the state.
