SJVN Ltd partners with IIT Patna to accelerate progress on tunnelling projects

Hydroelectric power major SJVN Limited has partnered with IIT Patna to improve tunnelling projects by utilizing advanced geological models. The collaboration aims to reduce time and cost overruns through the development of predictive analytics algorithms and integrating geotechnical data sources.

The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) will focus on developing cutting-edge methodologies that incorporate geological surveys, borehole data, geophysical measurements, and monitoring data to enhance project execution. By evaluating the relationship between overburden and deformation, the collaboration intends to improve support system design crucial for tunnelling projects.

SJVN Chairperson & Managing Director Geeta Kapur highlighted the importance of the partnership in mitigating risks and hazards during project execution. The use of integrated geotechnical data and 3D geological models will aid in identifying potential risks and implementing proactive measures to ensure project success.

The MoU was signed in the presence of SJVN’s Director (Finance), A.K Singh, and IIT Patna’s Director, T.N Singh in the national capital on April 2. This collaboration signifies a significant step towards enhancing tunnelling project efficiency and reducing time and cost overruns through innovative geological modeling techniques.
