Skoda places India at the center of global expansion strategy, spotlight on sub-compact SUV

Skoda Auto is set to make significant moves in the Indian market by launching a compact SUV and introducing the Enyaq electric SUV. According to reports, Skoda’s global CEO, Klaus Zellmer, highlighted India’s importance in the company’s international expansion strategy, with plans to enter the competitive compact SUV segment and introduce an electric vehicle in the country.

Zellmer emphasized Skoda Auto India’s goal to achieve a five percent market share in India’s passenger vehicle segment by 2030, with a focus on increasing production capacity. He stated, “India plays a crucial role in our growth strategy, strengthening our wider internationalisation potential. The country is a key contributor to our global growth and the most promising market for the years to come.”

Currently, half of Skoda’s cars produced outside the Czech Republic are manufactured in India, supporting the company’s export strategy. Zellmer highlighted the successful operations in India, which have led to market entries in regions like the Gulf countries and Vietnam. The company aims to expand its product range with enhancements and new offerings in both internal combustion engine and battery electric vehicle segments.

In line with the booming compact SUV segment in India, Skoda is working on a new compact SUV set to launch in approximately a year. This move aims to capture a significant market share in the competitive segment, competing with popular models such as the Tata Nexon, Hyundai Venue, and Kia Sonet. Additionally, Skoda is gearing up to introduce the all-electric Enyaq in the Indian market, aligning with the company’s global EV strategy.

Zellmer shared, “The new compact SUV and the all-electric Enyaq mark Skoda’s entry into a new era in India and international markets. These strategic moves aim to expand our customer offerings and establish a strong presence in the SUV and EV segments, reflecting the evolving preferences of Indian consumers.” The Enyaq is expected to debut in India later this year, further solidifying Skoda’s commitment to the Indian market’s electrification journey.
